River Positions

Raft Guide

Are you ready to work hard with a great team to ensure a safe, exciting guest experience? Can you entertain guests in a courteous manner? Our guides are also punctual, neat in uniform and appearance and act in a professional manner at all times. All of our raft guides work both on and off river. In your first season you can expect 3-5 day trips/week and the remainder of your full-time hours will come from your off-river position.

 

Current CPR and First Aid Certification. Must have strong swimming ability. Must be friendly and outgoing and strong communication skills. Specific raft guiding experience is not essential, however, you must be able to demonstrate your leadership, attitude, teamwork, guest interaction and communication skills with examples from your experience. We conduct a guiding course every June for interested new guides. 

Kayak School Instructor

As a kayak school instructor, you have substantial experience and instruction ability. You will instruct, organize and lead groups of students down class 1-3 white water on the Ottawa River. You will be responsible for managing your class, serving guests and creating a positive learning environment. We are looking for someone with exceptional guest service skills and technical river ability.
Requirements: This seasonal full-time position requires 3+ years of white water kayak experience. The right candidate will also possess confidence, leadership ability and the appropriate instructor certifications. Knowledge of the industry, client needs and river safety protocols are essential. Keener Program Coordinator

The Keener Program is a youth leadership development program with a focus on advanced freestyle kayaking. As assistant coordinator you have extensive competitive and instruction white water kayaking experience. You will be responsible to coordinate activities, supervise instructors and students and provide leadership and kayak training and instruction. This is a seasonal full-time position starting in June.
Requirements: A strong whitewater instruction background is essential in a variety of areas including creeking, river-running, freestyle and competition. A strong instruction background of at least 2 years is also required. You must be able to lead a group, make decisions and plan activities. The Keener Program is a youth leadership development program with a focus on advanced freestyle kayaking. As the Competitive Coach, you have extensive competitive and instruction white water kayaking experience. You will be responsible to coordinate training, supervise instructors and students and provide leadership and kayak training and instruction. This is a seasonal full-time position starting in June.
Requirements: National level or above competitive freestyle experience and are required. As well, the Competitive Coach needs a thorough understanding of the freestyle kayak community and the progression of the sport. Digital Media - Photo/ Video Kayaker

Wilderness Tours and Ottawa Kayak School requires a competent whitewater kayaker and photographer. This role involves setting up, taking photos, adjusting/editing and selling action shots of guests rafting, kayaking and enjoying our facilities. Staff will be using an extensive range of technical equipment, including digital SLR cameras, lenses and photo-developing and video editing equipment. Will be trained on editing videos using templates in Final Cut Pro. Timely development and display of printed and digital photos and videos are essential. Troubleshoot digital media hardware and software. Report any and all technical difficulties or malfunctions to a supervisor or manager. Develop expertise with photo/video hardware and software to produce high quality digital media. 

Requirements: As an intermediate kayaker, you understand the sport, can anticipate angles, moves, conditions and water levels. You must have an understanding of both the competitive culture, river dynamics, shot staging and the Ottawa River rapids and playspots. Outdoor photo experience is a must; be prepared to provide examples of your work. Someone who works well under time deadlines and who can work independently will excel in this role. Culinary Job

Food and Beverage team are as energetic and motivated as they come. The Front of the House team can strike up a conversation anytime – anywhere, smiling comes naturally to them, they thrive in a fast-paced environment. Our Back of the House team is home to our passionate foodies.

General Back of house - Kitchen Staff

To cook & perform all kitchen duties as required. Maintain quality & consistency of product which is being cooked, according to specifications. Set up and break down of Pit. Cleanliness of entire Pit area. To assist in the preparation of food. Washing all dishes, pots and large items. Keep garbage emptied and disinfect garbage cans. Responsible for cleanliness of work area. Keep floors swept and mopped as necessary. To assist in production of top quality product for our guests while maintaining an efficient & clean work area.
Requirements: Previous experience an asset, but not required. Must be able to take direction and work independently when required.

Grill Cook

To cook & perform all kitchen duties as required. Maintain quality & consistency of product which is being cooked, according to specifications. Set up and break down of Pit. Dining Room Supervisor

Responsible for floor supervision during operating hours. To assist in the implementation of Bar controls and Staff training. To Cash-Out servers, run reports on machines and responsible for cash outs. To work closely with servers, maintain excellent services & ensuring our guests are treated well. To ensure the dining room & washrooms are clean at all times & to ensure the maintenance schedule is followed. Relate any problems to the Food & Beverage Manager
Requirements: Previous Experience Required To be personable, able to take charge and able to access a situation & deal with it. To have a good working knowledge of all WT programs and activities in order that guest inquiries may be responded to accurately. Must have excellent communication skills, accurate record keeping and be self motivated. Must have a good working relationship with all departments

Front of house - Server

Prepare room for dining by clothing tables and setting decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates and utensils. Protect establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety and alcohol beverage control policies. Help patrons select food and beverages by presenting menu; offering cocktails; suggesting courses; explaining the chef’s specialties; identifying appropriate wines; answering food preparation questions. Stay updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items, etc. Transmit orders to bar and kitchen by recording patrons’ choices; identifying patrons’ special dietary needs and special requests. Keep kitchen staff informed by noting timing of meal progression. Serve orders by picking up and delivering patrons’ choices from bar and kitchen; deliver accompaniments and condiments from service bars. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Requirements: Prior serving experience and excellent oral communication skills

Front of house - Bartender

Prepare alcohol or non-alcohol beverages for bar and restaurant patrons. Interact with customers, take orders and serve snacks and drinks. Assess customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails. Plan and present bar menu. Check customers’ identification and confirm it meets legal drinking age. Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies. Stay guest focused and nurture an excellent guest experience. Comply with all food and beverage regulations.

Requirements: Prior bartending experience

Outdoor grill cook 

Packs and prepares lunch site for arrival of river guests. To cook & perform all kitchen duties as required. Maintain quality & consistency of product which is being cooked, according to specifications. Set up and break down of Lunch site. Cleanliness of entire Lunch site area. To assist in the preparation of food. Washing all dishes, pots and large items. Keep garbage emptied and disinfect garbage cans. Responsible for cleanliness of work area. Keep floors swept and mopped as necessary. To assist in production of top quality product for our guests while maintaining an efficient & clean work area.
Requirements: must have valid G drivers license and two years experience in the food industry.

Receptionist/ Guest services Front Desk Clerk

To welcome and check in guests with enthusiasm. Provide an outstanding guest experience. Book reservations for individuals, families and groups as required. Greet walk-in guests and guests with reservations when they arrive at the front desk. Operate computer reservation program and multi-line phone system. Answer any questions or concerns. Direct guests to their activity. Ensure reception area is tidy and orderly. Complete basic cashier responsibilities. Contact necessary staff to solve problems when challenges arise, ensuring guest comfort.  

Requirements: To have a good working knowledge of all WT programs and activities in order that guest inquiries may be responded to accurately. Must have excellent communication skills and be self motivated. 

Retail Staff

Constant interactions with guests to recommend, select and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires. Open, close and balance cash registers, performing tasks such as counting money and organizing receipts. Cleaning of the retail sop and monitoring sales display areas to ensure proper organization of retail shop. 

Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payments and exchanges, and security practices. 

Office & Reservation Staff 

Provide an outstanding guest experience. Book reservations for individuals, families and groups as required. Answer phone calls and answer guest questions. Operate computer reservation program and multi-line phone system. Answer any questions or concerns. Direct guests to their activity. Ensure office area is tidy and orderly. Complete basic cashier responsibilities. Contact necessary staff to solve problems when challenges arise, ensuring guest comfort.

Security Staff

To ensure the safety and well being of our guests. To protect guests, staff and property of Wilderness Tours. To ensure compliance to all regulations & policies by all persons on WT property. To assist, when necessary, Rafters Doormen in the execution of their duties. To maintain a level of cleanliness as is expected by WT contingent upon circumstances. To provide guests with whatever assistance is necessary. Evening & night work in all types of weather conditions. Constant contact with our guests during your shift.
