    PAYMENT AND RATES
Rates are quoted in Canadian Dollars. Payment by credit card calculates the exchange against the current rate and is the preferred method of payment. Any other forms of payment will require the current exchange to be calculated on the total. Rates are per week. Please add $7/day Service Charge and 13% tax (HST). Clothing and other tangibles are subject to an additional 13% tax.

    CANCELLATION POLICY
A 50% deposit is required upon reservation with a major credit card. The balance will be charged to the same card 120 days in advance of the participant's arrival. Cancellations made prior to 120 days will receive an 85% refund. There are no refunds or cancellations within 120 days on the program or any item relating to Keeners. Cancellation insurance can be purchased on the reservation, which will cover guests in the event of a serious illness, accident or family bereavement with a third party certificate such as a doctor's note.

    WHO SHOULD BE A KEENER
The Keener Program is for teens with a passion for kayaking and who already possess a good "roll" in whitewater. It is not a traditional summer camp and bears no resemblance to one. It is high performance athletic program. Keeners are coached on the water and supervised off the water. We offer a teen resident kayak camp for teens whose skill level is not quite sufficient for Keeners.

    DISCIPLINE
As stated above, Keeners is high performance athletics. While discipline problems are rare, they can occur. Minor infractions are dealt with "time off the water". As Keeners are minors, they still have to be supervised and we debit the parents credit card for costs incurred. Serious infractions result in expulsion and parents are required to pick up their son or daughter immediately.

FLYING TO WILDERNESS TOURS (passports are required for all international Keeners)
Our closest international airport is Ottawa (YOW) about a 2 hour drive from WT. Keeners flying to Ottawa should arrive Sunday afternoon between 1-4 pm. Keeners departing Ottawa on Saturdays should schedule a departing flight anytime after 12pm - 4pm. International Keeners must call WT at 1.888.RAFT.NOW from their departure city if they are on a direct flight or from their last transfer point. For example, if you are flying from Denver through Chicago to Ottawa, call us from Chicago to let us know if your flight is still on time. Our toll free number works from any pay phone without cost to the caller. You will clear customs and immigration in Ottawa. Once you have cleared customs and immigration, just walk outside the terminal and wait to be met by a WT staff member wearing a red staff shirt. If there are any problems, just go to a pay phone and dial 1.888.RAFT.NOW. WE REQUIRE THE E-TICKET FLIGHT SCHEDULE FROM THE AIRLINE at least 15 days prior to flight to avoid financial penalty. WE DO NOT TAKE FLIGHT INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE.

    FLYING HOME
Our responsibility ends when we ensure the Keener is checked in and goes through security. Keeners flying to or through the US clear US Customs and Immigration in Ottawa. It is your responsibility to maintain cell phone contact with your Keener and monitor their flights.

    FLYING AS AN UNACCOMPANIED MINOR
Young teens can be sent as an "unaccompanied minor". Airlines accept responsibility and only release the minor to an authorized person. You must let us know if your Keener is flying as an unaccompanied minor to arrange for our representative to meet them inside the terminal to "sign" the release; otherwise, we wait outside. Ottawa is a small airport and getting lost is not an issue. IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR YOUR KEENER TO FLY WITH A LETTER OF PERMISSION SAYING YOUR CHILD IS ENROLLED IN KEENERS AND WILL BE MET AT THE AIRPORT BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF WILDERNESS TOURS.

FLYING TO WT WITH YOUR KAYAK
Most airlines now accept freestyle kayaks as checked baggage. However, diligence on your part is still required. Air Canada requires you register with them as they limit the number of kayaks on a flight (because of space issues). For example, the limit for Ottawa on a small plane is 2 kayaks. United Airlines accepts kayaks if you belong to USACK. Go online and become a member. It's always best to have your kayak and paddle in a bag. Don't weigh it down packing gear into your boat.

PASSPORTS Passports are required for all international Keeners.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE INFORMATION Arrive Sunday at 3-4pm at WT. Find map & travel directions at www.wildernesstours.com. Pick up & departure is 10 am on Saturday at Keenerville. Parents may stay at WT at a 15% discount on camping/cabin/meal packages.

TRAVEL TO OTHER RIVERS Keeners travel to other rivers during each session. Costs are tallied and divided between the Keeners. Cost is about $50 - $80. Other rivers may include the Petawawa in Algonquin Park and Quebec's Gatineau, Rouge and Lachine.

PRO DEALS We have a Pro Deal for Keeners from Level 6. They make great gear that we wear and use ourselves. To order Level 6 gear, order from them directly. We supply Level 6 with the Keener Roster. You will receive a 20% discount and your gear will be shipped to you directly or to WT waiting your arrival. Check out all their great products at www.levelsix.com.

SAFETY Keeners is a rigorous program and while serious accidents are unlikely, they are possible. A signed waiver is required and can be completed on our website prior to attending their session. If a Keener is injured during training and is unable to complete the course, we credit the unused portion for time later in the season or the following season. Keeners using a credit for the following season must come for a minimum of 3 weeks.

FREE PADDLING With written permission from the Head Coach (and parent) Keeners are free to paddle on their own. However, this is only under Keener protocol which includes signing out and back, all paddlers must be back 1/2 hour before dark, paddling with first aid kit, paddling with other Keeners (min group size is 3 except for McCoy Chute which is 2), senior Keener in charge.

PARENTS PROGRAM Keener families receive a 15% discount on WT rafting and kayak school as well as accommodations and camping.

KID’S WEEK July 4-9, 2021 and August 8-13, 2021 For ages 7-11 and must be accompanied off river by an adult.

FIRST AID/CPR AND SRT These international certification courses are a standard for river guides and kayak instructors. Wilderness Tours is a founding member of the Canadian River Council (CRC) They are mandatory for Keeners. Keeners who are already certified need to provide us with a copy of the certification for our files. Keeners who do not hold a current certification are required to take the course during their Keener stay.

LAUNDRY Our housekeeping department does Keener laundry weekly which means Keeners can pack light.
