Why Military Training is a Core Service

In 1974, Wilderness Tours Founder/President Joe Kowalski had a life changing decision to make. In his last year of a 4 year military obligation Joe had been promoted to Captain.

With a desire to start Wilderness Tours after his army duty, his new found promotion and a promising military career gave Joe pause. In 1975 after much internal discourse, Joe decided to chase the dream of starting Wilderness Tours.

Struggling at first but through hard work and perseverance, Wilderness Tours became Canada’s top Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking company and with prestige comes opportunity.

This came in the form of military units from all over Canada and the United Kingdom seeking out Wilderness Tours as a training location. Now, in 2025, Wilderness Tours offers training programs ranging from 1 day to several weeks.
